Can Blue Onion Help Me Calculate COGS?

Blue Onion tracks fulfillment data on the individual item level in order to ensure that revenue is recognized accurately. If an order has multiple items and only one item was fulfilled by the end of a period, only that item will be recorded in revenue recognition, whereas the remaining unfulfilled item will remain in the deferred revenue liability.

This fulfillment data can also be used to help calculate the Cost of Goods Sold for a given period.  This allows users to have parity between revenue recognition and COGS.

The Order Line Item Source Data can be used to help calculate your cost of goods sold for a given period of time.

  1. Navigate to the Order Line Item Summary Tab of Your App

  1. Group by the Specific Item Identifier Best For Your Organization to Use to Calculate the Cost of the Items Sold

The available groupings per product include:

  • SKU
  • Product Title
  • Product Type
  • Line Item Type
  • Channel
  • Discount Code
  • Location

  1. Select the Appropriate ‘Fulfillment Created At’ Date

This allows you to see the quantities of each grouping that were fulfilled in this period.

  1. Click on the “Export Icon” and Export the File into Excel

Add in the cost (found outside of Blue Onion) for each item and multiply by the quantity fulfilled for the given time period to calculate the total cost of goods sold.
